Overview & Special Stitches

The Alpine Stitch is a thick and textured  4 row repeat pattern.

  • It is a beautiful stitch with the front being very distinct from the back.
  • This stitch has a tendency to curl, so will benefit from blocking. 

Stitches used:

  • ch
  • sc
  • dc
  • fpdc

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): The fpdc is simply a dc performed around the leg of the st below from front to back.

Foundation Chain

Chain any odd number.

Pattern

Row 1: 

  • (RS) dc in third ch from hook (skipped chs do not count as st) and in each ch across.
  • turn. 

Row 2:

  • (WS) ch 1, sc in same st , and in each st across.
  • turn.

Row 3:

  • ch 2, dc in same st,*fpdc around the dc below the next st.
  • dc in the next st,
  • repeat from *  to end.
  • turn.

Row 4:

  • repeat row 2.

Row 5:

  • ch 2, dc in same st, dc in next st
  • *fpdc around the dc below the next st, dc in the next st.
  • repeat from *  to last st,
  • dc in last stitch and  turn.

Row 6:

  • repeat row 2.

Repeat rows 3-6 for the pattern.
