Overview & Special Stitches

Rice stitch is a simple 1 row repeat pattern made up mainly of front and back post double crochet stitches.

  • The resulting fabric will be nearly identical on both sides.

 

  • Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): The fpdc is performed around the leg of the st below from front to back.
  • Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): The bpdc is performed around the leg of the st below from the back to the front.

Foundation Chain

Chain a multiple of 2  + 1

Pattern

Row 1: 

  • dc in the 4th ch from the hook and in each ch across.
  • turn.

Row 2:

  • ch2 (counts as a hdc here and throughout)
  • sk the first st then *fpdc in the next st, bpdc in the next st.
  • repeat from * across.
  • end with a fpdc and a hdc in the top of the turning ch2

Repeat row 2 for the pattern.
