super bulky premier chunky cotton
Premier Chunky Cotton
Details
- Premier Chunky Cotton is a super soft 100% Cotton, Turkish made yarn.
- It is a weight 6 super bulky yarn with 100g and 46m per ball.
- Machine washable in cold water.Â
- Crochet gauge: US Size K-10.5 (6.5 mm), 9 sc x 8 rows = 4″
- Knit gauge: US Size 10.5 (6.5 mm), 10 sts x 12 rows = 4″
- 8 colours available in my online store.
This was my first experience with a super bulky yarn and being made of cotton, it is very dense.
Â
- This yarn has lots of cotton strands held together by a fine thread continuously wound around the length of the yarn.
- I found it very hard going to begin with but after a time I got used to the feel of it and how there needs to be a difference in the way you hold and feed your yarn as you complete your project.
- It was easy to find the end from the centre and continued to pull easily throughout.
- There was no issue with splitting and after initially freaking out because I thought I would not be able to see the stitches properly!!….I breathed a sigh of relief as I realised it wasn’t difficult and the hook just slid easily through the strands.Â

Super Bulky Mat
I couldn’t wait to use this yarn, because I’ve been wanting a nice chunky mat for my bathroom or kitchen….I thought I would decide the best place for it when I finished. 😊
My mat could definitely have been a bit bigger but this is ok for my first go at a chunky yarn.
It’s not the best looking mat, but I just winged it and didn’t put much effort into counting properly. You get the general idea though. 😊
- My mat is 68cm across the bottom and 35cm high.
- It used just under 3 balls of yarn…approximately one of each colour.
- I used a 10 mm crochet hook.

In Summary
- I love how fast this works up and the end result is so soft.
- I think simple stitch patterns would look best with the Premier Chunky Cotton…but happy to be proven wrong!!
- It is a beautiful yarn for chunky homewares…great for a nice soft absorbent bath mat.
- I experimented with the recommended 6.5mm and a 9mm and the 10mm hook. I prefer using the bigger hook sizes for this yarn, just personal preference though.
- If you are looking to make wearables with the Premier Chunky Cotton, using an even larger hook will give you more drape.
- If you need to frog this yarn, you’ll need to be a bit gentle. It can get stuck, but if you just pull on it from different angles it comes undone fairly easily.
